Sure, China is one big country – and six out of twelve teams competing for the Dota2 Asia Championships 2017 will be coming from China.

As the Chinese Qualifiers for the DAC 2017 drew to a close around the same time that WESG 2016 was concluding, four new Chinese teams will be joining the fray this coming March. The Chinese Qualifiers itself was well-stacked and filled with competition. A total of 15 teams were involved in the qualifiers.

Two Chinese teams have already received a direct invite for the upcoming tournament, namely Wings Gaming and Newbee, along with Evil Geniuses and OG. Four more regional qualifiers will be held to fill in the last four slots for the competition, with one each for the Americas, South East Asia, Europe and the CIS.

Before starting the Chinese Qualifiers, team Brave Heart declined their direct invitation into the tournament, prompting the organizers to hold an additional Pre-Qualifier tournament to determine BH’s replacement. Newbee Boss, which has recently made headlines for featuring the first ever female professional Dota2 player Bi “Axx” Xia, triumphed over CAVALRY, Avalon Club and RUSH B. Newbee Boss also features prominent Chinese Dota2 veterans xiao8, Ferrari_430, ChuaN and Zei9.

The twelve participating teams were then split into two round-robin groups, with the top performers immediately earning themselves a spot in the DAC main event. The 2nd and 3rd placers of each group then competed in a double-elimination bracket, with the top 2 teams qualifying for the main event.

Teams Invictus Gaming and Team VG.J came out on top of their respective groups, with iG listing a clean record against their opponents. CDEC Gaming, LGD.Forever Young, iG Vitality and Vici Gaming were the teams that advanced to the double-elimination bracket. Among these four, iG.V and LGD.FY emerged victorious.

Both the prize pool for the main event and the specific dates for the upcoming regional qualifiers are still not announced by the organizers, but the previous DAC 2015 had a prize pool of over $3 million, with EG emerging on top against Vici Gaming on the Grand Finals. The Group Stages before the Main Event will be held on March 28-30, while the Main Event itself will be held on April 1-4.
