China and the Commonwealth of Independent States have moved on from their Bo1 Round Robins. The top four teams of both regions move on to the playoffs round of the qualifiers. The series of matches in the round robins showed how direct invites do not necessarily mean a team is the best in the region.
Vega Squadron and FlyToMoon went straight to the regional qualifiers through their direct invites. Between the two, it was FlyToMoon that proved they deserve the invitation. Finishing with a 6-1 record, FlyToMoon tops their rankings. Double Dimension won against FlyToMoon, giving them their only loss, and thus securing a slot in the playoffs as well. On the other end of the spectrum, Vega Squadron played disappointingly. They lost all six of their matches and finished last.
Rather unexpectedly, Team Spirit also nabbed a slot in the playoffs, along with ESPADA. Two veteran esports organizations in the form of Gambit Esports and Team Empire both finished just a bit higher over Vega Squadron, SoNNeikO and .Ark‘s stack also failed to reach the playoffs, ending their TI run for this year.
Invictus Gaming were the sole invitees for the regional qualifiers, and they barely got into the playoff picture. Unlike the CIS Qualifier, the Chinese regional qualifiers saw three teams score a tie for the last two spots in the playoffs. LGD.FY and IG eventually won their respective slots, leaving Keen Gaming eliminated in the regional qualifiers. Team Serenity and For The Dream topped the round robins. Young Dumb, iG.Vitality, and CDEC Gaming also ended their TI8 aspirations today.
