The top 16 teams of the League of Legends Worlds 2018 have been decided.
Four teams qualified into the Main Event coming from the Play-In, which ended last weekend. Cloud 9, EDward Gaming, G2 Esports and G-Rex overcame the odds and won against the likes of Gambit, Ascencion and Dire Wolves. Doing so clinched them a minimum of $28,125 paycheck.
The Group Stage
The four qualified teams from the Play-Ins join twelve other teams in four separate groups. Cloud 9’s group is populated by Royal Never Give Up, Gen.G and Team Vitality. Meanwhile, G2 joins Flash Wolves, Afreeca Freecs, and Phong Vũ Buffalo in their own group. Group C has EDward Gaming competing against KT Rolster, MAD Team and Team Liquid. Finally, G-Rex goes head-to-head against Fnatic, 100 Thieves and Invictus Gaming.
The Group Stage will be fought in a double round-robin with Best-of-1 matches.
The top two teams from each of the groups will proceed to the playoffs, making for an eight-team single-elimination bracket. All matches will be fought in a Best-of-5 series. A base amount of $1,822,500 will be fought over by the top eight, with a $843,750 top prize. The crowdfunded prize is yet to be added to the prize pool.
